At approximately 5:00 on the morning of Thursday October 7th there was a home invasion in the area of Southport and Barry.
The initial investigation indicates that the offenders entered a residence through an open 1st floor window, possibly using a patio chair found in a neighboring yard to reach the open window. Once inside, the offenders took computers, televisions and electronic items and then fled the scene.
At this time the only description available is that there were 3 offenders, 2 being male blacks. While there was no involved vehicle observed, it is reasonable to assume that one was used to transport the offenders and items taken away from the scene. At this time Police is not able to share any other specific details about the incident.
At this time I suggest that you take the following precautions to safeguard yourself:
- Keep any window that can be reached from ground level closed and locked, especially during the overnight hours or whenever you are sleeping. Keep entry doors locked at all times as well.
- If you want to keep your 1st floor windows open, install a device that limits the height that the window can be opened so it cannot be raised up high enough to allow someone to climb through. An example of this type of device can be found here.
- Secure all outdoor furniture, ladders and other objects that can be used to climb on to limit an offender’s ability to reach window levels.
- Immediately call 911 if you see anything suspicious, especially unknown persons in rear yard areas of residences.
